LinBit's system for mirroring filesystems across the Network, typically a dedicated LAN, written by Philipp Reisner[1] and LarsEllenberg[2]. This is the general replication technology which is most commonly used by members of the Linux-HA community. By the way, DRBD is a registered trademark of LinBit[3].
If you just start learning about DRBD, you are strongly encouraged to thoroughly read the DRBD User's Guide[4]. Learn how to set it up manually and how things work. Use DRBD manually to get a feeling for what it does. Then you may start thinking about using it as a cluster resource.
A background paper by Lars on DRBD 8.0.x[5] is recommended.
For a good overview of DRBD (0.6.x), see Lars's article[6] on DRBD in the November, 2003[7] issue of the US publication Linux Magazine[8].
This article has been reviewed for DRBD 0.7: DataRedundancyByDrbd[9]
