Many articles, books, white papers, red papers, and other documents have been written on this project and software. Here are a few examples:

• Michael Schwartzkopff[1] wrote a HOWTO setup high available firewall with pacemaker, iptables, and conntrackd for state sync between the nodes. See here[2].

• Eric Searcy[3] wrote a two-part article on scaling Linux using Linux Virtual Server/Direct Routing, Heartbeat (v1), and ldirectord: Part I[4] (PDF[5]) and Part II[6] (PDF[7]).

• Michael Schwartzkopff[1] wrote a German book about building clusters with Linux-HA version 2 ("Clusterbau mit Linux-HA Version 2[8]"). Published by O'Reilly, 2008.

• Kris Buytaert[9] and Johan Huysmans[10] wrote an article entitled Using Xen for High Availability Clusters[11] for the O'Reilly Network.

• Lars Daniel Forseth wrote a resource agent for IBM's database server called Informix Dynamic Server (IDS) as an end product of his diploma thesis. The IDS resource agent is already committed to the development tree of Linux-HA and will be an integral part of the next Heartbeat release. The diploma thesis has been published on the web portal called the "Informix Zone" on August 30th 2007[12].

• Pedro Pia wrote DRBD in a Heartbeat[13] for the September, 2006 issue of Linux Journal[14].

• In the July 2006 issue of SysAdmin magazine[15], Joe La Chapell and JT Vogt write about Building a Bulletproof Penguin: DB2 and Linux Failover[16].

• In High-Availability Architectures for Linux on IBM System z[17], Scott Epter, Harriet Morril, Steve Wehr, and Scott Loveland present worked examples of configurations Linux-HA configurations for System Z with WebSphere[18], DB2, and Oracle, and also for standalone applications.

• Boris Bialek of IBM has written a short article HA on a dime[19] about Linux-HA and DB2.

• Anand Subramanian and Melody Ng of the IBM Toronto software lab have written

  DB2 Universal Database (DB2 UDB) for Linux with DRBD and Heartbeat: A Low-Cost Open Linux High Availability Solution[20]

• Mary Lynn Kitaura, Melody Ng, Steve Raspudic, Anand Subramanian and Jing Yang of the IBM Toronto software lab have written Automating DB2 Universal Database (DB2 UDB) HADR Failover using Heartbeat for Linux[21]

• Michael Perzl has written an article about Heartbeat and DB2 on Power[22].

• In Fault Tolerance with Linux High Availability Services[23] Chander Ganesan explains how to provide HA services using heartbeat package on SUSE Linux. It covers hardware configuration, how to install and configure heartbeat and resources, and finally how to verify and test HA services. (Q1 2006)

• Simon Brock and Ian Wrigley use off-the-peg open-source software to build a basic implementation of a SAN using iSCSI, heartbeat[24] and DRBD[25] in the March 2006 edition of the UK's PC Pro Magazine in an article entitled SAN on the Cheap[26].

• Falko Timme wrote a "cut and paste" tutorial on Setting Up A Highly Available NFS Server[27] using heartbeat[24] and DRBD[25] (March 2006).

• Kris Buytaert[28] wrote an article entitled Building a High-Availability MySQL Cluster[29] for the O'Reilly Network.

• Paul J. Lucas wrote a

  short article[30] on running Heartbeat[24] on his Mac Mini (June, 2005).

• Ludovic Marcotte[31] published an article entitled Database Replication with Slony-I[32] in the June, 2005[33] issue of Linux Journal[34]. In this article, he uses Linux-HA to manage the Slony replication process.

• Mark Gibbs wrote a Network World

  Gearhead[35] column on 13 June, 2005 on High Availability and Heartbeat[36] which gives a quick overview of setting up an HA cluster with Heartbeat[24].

• Karl Kopper has written a book entitled

  The Linux Enterprise Cluster: Build a Highly Available Cluster with Commodity Hardware and Free Software[37]. Published by No Starch Press[38], ISBN: 1-59327-036-4[39]. Karl's book features Linux-HA prominently, and dedicates several chapters to it. AlanRobertson[40] reviewed the chapters on Linux-HA for accuracy - and they're pretty darn good. horms[41] reviewed the chapters on LVS[42] (errata[43]).

• Sys Admin Magazine has an article on

  Heartbeat, DRBD, and DRBDLinks[46] by Sean Reifschneider. It includes an overview of Heartbeat and DRBD, and introduces DRBDLinks as a way to ease maintanance of clusters.

• O'ReillyNet has an article on HA-Oscar[47] by Ibrahim Haddad[48], "Box"[49], and Stephen Scott[50]. HA-Oscar uses the Linux-HA software to give a high-performance cluster high-availability features.

• Hidayatullah Shaikh has completed a series of five articles on High-availability Middleware on Linux. They are entitled Part 1: Heartbeat and Apache Web server[51], Part 2: WebSphere MQ[52], Part 3: IBM LoadLeveler[53], Part 4: IBM WebSphere Application Server[54], and Part 5: IBM DB2 Universal Database[55].

• Novell has written a Technical Information Document on

  Using heartbeat for clustering Novell's eDirectory and Identity Manager products on SuSE Linux[56].

• Nuno Tavares has written an article on

  Building Highly Available LTSP clusters[57] This article uses both DRBD[25] and heartbeat[24].

• Ibrahim Haddad, Chokchai Leangsuksun, Stephen L. Scott, and Tong Liu published an article

  entitled Towards Highly Available Linux Clusters[58] in the February 2004 issue of LinuxWorld Magazine[59]. This article is about HA OSCAR, which uses Linux-HA as a key component in its quest to bring high-availablity to high-performance clusters.

• Karkoma wrote an article in January 2004 entitled

  Implementing High-Availability in MySQL[60] which appeared in Karkoma Online and discusses a low cost shared-nothing configuration using MySQL replication.

• Andreas Sebald wrote an german article how to set up heartbeat and DRBD in a hot standby configuration. The article was published in the 2004/7 issue of Linux-Magazin[61].

• AlanRobertson[40] wrote an article entitled Highly-Affordable High-Availability[62] which appeared in the November, 2003 issue[63] of the US publication Linux Magazine[64].

• LarsEllenberg[65] has published an article entitled Data Redundancy by DRBD[66] in the November, 2003[63] issue of the US publication Linux Magazine[67].

• Andre Bonhote wrote an article entitled High-Availability NFS Server With Linux Heartbeat[68] in the August 2003 issue of the European publication Linux Magazine[69]. This is a translation of the article entitled Heartbeat macht NFS-Server redundant which appeared in the July 2003[70] issue of the German publication Linux Magazin[71].

• There is an article in the December 2002 issue of Linux Journal entitled High-Availability LDAP Clusters with Heartbeat[72] by Jay Allen and Cliff White. It looks quite similar to the article they wrote for Developer Domain.

• There is an interview with Alan Robertson[73] in the September 2002 Linux Journal about the history of the Linux-HA project, and the related Open Cluster Framework[74](OCF) effort. Linux-HA is aiming at becoming the OCF reference implementation.

• C Leung published an article entitled

  Building a Two-Node Linux Cluster With Heartbeat[75] in the March 2002 issue of Linux Journal[34].

• There is an article in the September 2001 issue of SysAdmin[76] magazine entitled High-Availability File Server with heartbeat[77]. It is an excellent introduction to basic HAissues with our software. Unfortunately, it fails to mention STONITH, an important component of an HA file server with shared storage.

• There is an article in the IBM's Developer Domain online magazine entitled "Non-stop authentication with Linux clusters[78]" about configuring an LDAP server based on heartbeat. This is an excellent article which also shows how to use LDAP's built-in replication to avoid needing shared disks or writing your own replication software.

• Ken Bantoft has written an article entitled Highly Available VPNs on Linux which is available on the FreeS/WAN web site[79].

• Nuno Tavares has written an article called Building Highly Available LTSP Clusters[57].

• IBM has published a customer case study called "Delivering Ten Second Failover for High-Volume Transactional Telco Applications with IBM DB2(c) Universal Database V 8.1[80]. The paper uses the heartbeat software for their measurements.

• IBM has published a Redbook called IBM eServer BladeCenter, Linux, and Open Source: Blueprint for e-business on demand[81]. This redbook documents how to create highly vailable core internet services using a variety of open source tools including the Linux-HA software.

• IBM has published a red paper on Linux-HA entitiled Linux on IBM zSeries and S/390: High Availability for z/VM and Linux[82]. It contains good information on configuring the Linux-HA software properly in the zSeries environment. This paper provides information to help readers plan for and install a high availability solution for Linux for zSeries running under z/VM. It is written for customers, technical presale people, and technical managers, to help them to discuss the high availability possibilities of a Linux for zSeries environment running under z/VM and to guide them in implementing a solution.

• Thomas Olausson has written a document entitled Apache failover with heartbeat and Mon[83], which is a mini-howto for how to configure heartbeat and Mon together to monitor Apache.

• There is an article in the November 2000 issue of LinuxFocus[84] on "High Availability systems under Linux[85]". on configuring a High-Availability Apache server with Heartbeat.

• Omer Faruk Sen <ofsen at enderunix.org> has written an introductory article on ''Yuksek Erisilebilir Sistemler'' (High Availability)[86] in Turkish which explains some conceptsof high availability and explains how to install the Linux-HA heartbeat software.

• Hsing-Foo Wang <hsing-foo.wang at star-support.com> has written an HA HOWTO[87].
